When you are looking for products for your dog, it can be a little confusing. There are all types of CBD products out there like treats, capsules, tinctures, or topical treatments. There are also different kinds of CBD composition in products – such as full spectrum CBD oil or CBD isolate. Though all CBD is beneficial, you will want to choose the composition that is most beneficial for your pup.
How CBD affects the body
Just as us humans have an endocannabinoid system, so does your dog and all other mammals. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a group of cannabinoid receptors that are located throughout the body, of which are mostly in the brain, central nervous system, and peripheral organs (especially immune cells). The ECS is stimulated by endocannabinoids, which are produced internally. However, the ECS can also be stimulated by external cannabinoids, such as Cannabidiol (CBD). The ECS is responsible for regulating immune response, appetite, sleep, mood, and much more.
Full Spectrum CBD Oil
Within the hemp plant, there are a variety of compounds called cannabinoids. Among these cannabinoids are CBD and other common ones such as THC. These cannabinoids directly affect the body’s endocannabinoid system. Instead of just containing CBD, full spectrum CBD oil contains all of the other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids extracted from the hemp plant. These other cannabinoids can provide beneficial effects, but CBD has been shown to have the widest range of health benefits.
CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD, which is produced by extracting it from the hemp plant and isolating it from all of the other compounds. Once it is fully isolated, it exists as a white powder. Because it is fully extracted from other compounds, a product made with CBD isolate will have the lowest probability of containing THC. Why is this important? THC can be toxic to dogs, especially in large quantities.
Check out a few pros and cons of both CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD oil below.
There are definitely a few things to consider when choosing a CBD product that is right for your dog. But because of the diminished risk of containing THC, CBD isolate may be safest option to go with for pet-specific products.
